Spring break 2009 will be here before you know it. Most people don t realize that the most popular spring break packages are sold out before October 20th each year. I know what your thinking, that s over four months in advance. Yes it is, and it happens every year like clockwork.

If you think about the October 20th deadline this year, then you may start to realize that it will not be long before you will need to start making preparations for your spring break trip. Getting everyone together is always time consuming. Who is in and who is out? Most of your friends will say they are one hundred percent going, then when its time to pay up they back out. You really can t book the package until you have the money in hand so get started early.

Now, lets look at the most popular package last year and try to get an accurate prediction of the coming year. Due to the unending increases in airline travel, its safe to assume that cruises will once again be the travel route of choice for the budget conscious spring break student. There are many spring break trips that include a cruise to the destination. Most of these packages depart from Florida twice a week, three times per week, or daily. Cruises eliminate the high cost of spring break packages that include airfare and they are much more fun. The party starts when you board the ship, not when you reach the hotel.

Second, lets talk destination. The majority of the spring break cruises departing from Florida travel to The Bahamas. It s only seven hours off the coast and most cruise lines give the option to stay on the island at a hotel the entire time, or on the ship. If you tried to book a spring break cruise to The Bahamas in 2007 and/or 2008, then you probably know that Bahama cruises from Florida were completely sold out prior to October 20th both years. If you choose this option, you will need to book as soon as possible if historical data proves true once again.

Third, look for packages that offer true incentives . The most popular spring break packages often include a free summer trip if you book the package before a certain date. This would be one example of a true incentive. Packages that offer free alcoholic drinks for so many hours each day is not a true incentive, unless it s part of an all inclusive package which would include food and drinks at restaurants in the hotel. Happy hour and drink specials occur daily at every spring break destination. Most of the time the free drinks are the two for one drinks everyone can take advantage of during happy hour. You will notice that the free drinks are advertised to only be available at certain bars and pubs. These are typically the bars that offer drink specials and extended happy hour each day. The specials are available to anyone, and would not be exclusive to one packages. Also, discounts on pizza and burgers should not be viewed as a true incentive. If an agency is offering an incentive, it should have tangible numeric value. Most spring break students realize this and tend to pass on packages that include this type of thing.

Make preparations early, do your research, and make spring break 2009 the best ever!
