It seems that everyone is looking to make a pretty penny on the Internet these days. Everyone from college graduates to waitresses seems to be investigating the various money making opportunities available on the Web. The first step is deciding where to put your energies.
Do you have a passion for the exciting but little-known sport of fencing? You might consider starting a blog offering coaching tips, articles covering the nation's top fencers and perhaps a section on the history of fence. Include an opt-in section where visitors can sign up for a newsletter and you've just begun to create an email list highly coveted and potentially profitable tool.

This list will enable you to advertise directly to those who you know are already interested in your subject: fencing. Regularly emailing those on the list with specific messages designed to motivate them to do something, buy a product, read an article, or take part in a survey, is known as email marketing. Email marketing is widely recognized as one of the most effective marketing tools on the Internet.

Not into fencing, but have a passion for all things natural? You might consider affiliate marketing and partner with merchants who offer all-natural baby clothes, or totally organic health and beauty products. You, the affiliate, place advertisements on your website that take visitors to those products. Every time they click, purchase or provide contact information you earn a bit of cash in your account.

You could combine blogging, email marketing, and affiliate marketing for an even bigger payoff. For example, you could begin blogging about your passion for all things natural and offer a weekly newsletter featuring the newest products or latest sales, but in order for your visitors to receive this newsletter, they have to sign up for it by providing their email address. You now have a list that you can use to begin an email marketing campaign. Place links to your favorite affiliate merchants in your posts or advertise your favorite affiliate products on your blog to add affiliate marketing to your blogging and email marketing efforts.

Let's say you don't have a passion for fencing or all things natural, or anything really for that matter, except for making a lot of money. There are still lots of options in the world of Internet marketing.

You can put your already existing computer programming, writing, editing, or information technology skills to work as a freelancer. There are a lot of possibilities for freelance work on the Web. Agencies are constantly looking for smart individuals who reliably meet deadlines. If that describes you, then finding work online should be easy, and everyone wants to work from home in their bathrobe and slippers.

Some other possibilities include purchasing an already existing website, blog or other online business. Let someone else do the hard work of laying the foundation, creating the business and building up a client base for you.
