This topic has turned into one of the hottest debates in the world. Are Violent Video games necessary and will there ever be a day when there is no violence in video games? The answer to the first question is no, violence is not necessary in video games.
There are some extremely popular video games that do not require any violence. Games such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Brothers and the ever-popular Guitar Hero. There is no violence in these games at all and they are played by millions of people all over the world.
These games make money for the companies and the companies follow suit by producing and creating sequels to these games. Parents don't mind buying video games that can keep their kids out of trouble and are non violent. Kids that often play these games don't get into any real trouble outside of the home either. Have you ever heard someone say that a Sonic the Hedgehog video game made them do something stupid or violent?
That is where the violent video games come in. Games like Grand Theft Auto or Mortal Kombat, these games are blamed a lot for kids' behaviors when they do something bad. One teenager stole a car once and said it was cool because Grand Theft Auto was a cool game. But can a violent video game or any video game really make someone do something they know is wrong.
It has been said that it is the video games fault when someone does something because of a video game. Parents want to sue the video game companies, is it really the video game company's fault?
Maybe a small part but it can be said that it is the parents who buy these games for the kids and when they do something wrong because of it the parents bring suit to the video game company. But if the parents did not buy these games for their kids then maybe things like this wouldn't happen.
The argument continues, is violence necessary, no but video game creators and gaming companies make a lot of money based on the fact that violence sells. It is a sad fact in today's society that violence is a game seller. Could they be less violent, yes. But maybe they would not sell so many games.
Maybe Tipper Gore had the right idea and video games should have parental warning labels on these games. It may also be a good idea that violent games like Grand Theft Auto should not be allowed to be sold to kids under 18 no matter what. Maybe the violence would be kept inside the video game and not in the streets.
Teenagers who play these games are 15 and 16 years old, sometimes even younger. Their minds are not developed enough to handle the violence of these games. Maybe video game makers and the companies that sell them should consider some restrictions before something really horrible happens and the video games that they sell becomes the excuse. Until that happens the violence in video games will still be there.
