The Connection Between Celebrities and Plastic Surgery

Seeing actors and actresses in the movies and on television is a surreal experience. They seem to be perfect human beings living a wealthy lifestyle. Sure, there are character actors that have blatant flaws, but that is beside the point. Well, as the tabloids often point out, this perfect existence could be any further from the truth.

Actors and actresses are under constant pressure to look their best, and as such, many have gotten plastic surgery. This kind of surgery is not just something that is reserved for the Hollywood elite. In fact, many everyday people have been known to have a plastic surgery procedure done, simply because they wish to regain the self-esteem that they lost because of a certain physical feature.

There is such pressure on celebrities to get this kind of surgery nowadays because of the invention of high-definition television and movie screens. Before, clever lighting and makeup could hide flaws quite well. The face is not symmetrical, and many people have certain sides of the face that look better than others.

That is why some celebrities prefer to be photographed from only one side. Nowadays, however, the close-ups mean that there is nothing for aging actors or actresses to hide behind.

In the old days of Hollywood, if an actor or actress had admitted to getting plastic surgery, they would have faced severe public scrutiny. The viewing public wanted to think that these celebrities really were perfect. Thus, surgeons faced enormous pressure to provide results that not only made the star look perfect, but do it in as natural a way as possible.

Of course, all of this was decades ago, when cosmetic procedures were still very much in the experimental phases. Back then, a person would get a face lift and end up looking like a wax doll. Nowadays, however, the technology has advanced to such a place that the media, as well as the viewing public, spend a significant amount of time wondering if so and so really had any work done.

Regardless of whether a celebrity has or has not had plastic surgery, it is interesting to see how cosmetic procedures have really become an integral part of society. For example, a person only has to turn on the television to see documentaries or other reality television shows that have to do with the people who both perform and undergo this kind of surgery.

All of this having been said, this kind of surgery has also changed the lives of people who were either born physically deformed, or were deformed because of an accident. Take, for example, a person who was severely burned. They can get skin grafting surgery, in which skin from another area of the body is transplanted to the affected area, thus giving the person an entirely new look.

This field of surgery is immense, mostly because there are so many different branches. There is surgery for wrinkles, for sagging skin, for weight loss, and for many other things. If a person is considering getting cosmetic surgery, it is very important that he or she finds a qualified surgeon, and does more research about his or her chosen procedure.
